*+ PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SOUL OF BARBARA EMMEL +*
My dear friend Barbara Emmel went to God late on the night of 6 September at her home in Germany. Wife to Stephen Emmel, the renowned Coptologist and C93 floating member, and mother to Douglas Emmel, Barbara was a very close friend of mine, a wonderful poet, and had previously taught and researched as Professor of English at Hartford, Conneticut and Professor of English at Wisconsin-Eau Claire, USA. Her husband Stephen and I were honoured—and lucky enough—to have published her poetry collection, _Tatters and Whispers_, on Durtro in time for her to receive copies shortly before she passed on to the shining, shining world. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you all.

*First ever Durtro sale now on*
Following the termination of our distribution arrangements with Southern Studios, we received a quantity of material back from them. In order to clear space and prepare for the new Coptic Cat projects, we have decided to cut the prices of many of the items in the store. Most items are half price and some of these items will never be repressed.
Click here to go to the sale section of the shop*Durtro Jnana finally sleeps: thank you for all your support! We have… ceased to exist!*
Durtro Jnana have AT LAST ceased to operate as a label. There will be NO MORE releases of NEW material on this label EVER, though re-issues of back catalogue may—or may not—continue on Durtro Jnana, and some older titles may—or may not—be kept in print.
All new material by C93 and forthcoming projects will be released on COPTIC CAT, and a new website for Coptic Cat is presently being built, although it is not yet online. We hope it will be active in the next 2 to 4 weeks, and we will update you all when it is running. The Coptic Cat website will become the main website for my work. There are many CDs, LPs, books and other items being prepared for Coptic Cat. More news soon.
ALL NEW RELEASES WILL CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE VIA THE
JNANA RECORDS SITE.
*Recording for the new album continues/C93 NYC & London dates planned for April 2009*
We are continuing to record the new album, which has already been titled, and which will be something quite unexpected both in terms of music and line-up, except that, having written that, it is now expected. My hope is that it will be ready for the C93 shows, to celebrate my 93rd birthday, in NYC and London in April 2010, which are presently being organised and which will, I believe, take place in the first three weeks of that month. We are also looking at doing more dates later in 2010, certainly including Moscow and other dates in Europe and later, perhaps, a short tour of the USA. More details very soon.
*Roma: last C93 appearance of 2009*
It seems almost definite that the appearance of C93 at the PRE show in Rome will be our last appearance this year; we are appearing at the request of our dear friend Giulio Di Mauro. C93 will be the final act and end the festival. Originally C93 had planned to play a set consisting only of BIRTH CANAL BLUES, but we will now do a much longer set. Below is a reminder of the various details connected with the show.
C93 play Rome on 18 October, 2009 at the POST ROMANTIC EMPIRE FINAL FESTIVAL, which takes place over the days of 17 and 18 October at the Init. Club, Via Della Stazione Tuscolana 133, Rome. C93 are the final band playing.
The promotional flyer states:
"PRE FINAL FEST is the ultimate experience of the Post Romantic Empire, and its last manifestation. A black and pink psychic marathon that will last more than 27 hours continuously. PRE FINAL FEST is going to be a unique celebration and not just a music programme: artists and friends are invited to share the joy and the sadness of a happy ending. XXth century is not finished yet: use and abuse your emotions and join the Empire!"
Regarding tickets:
- The price of the pre-sale tickets is €65 until 5 October.
- Tickets availability on presale is limited to 500.
- Tickets bought in advance will allow one to enjoy the whole PRE FINAL FEST programme.
- If 500 tickets are sold out on presale there will be no tickets at the door. If it is not sold out there will be tickets for single parts of the fest (Saturday night, Sunday morning, Sunday night).
For online presale please contact: prefinalfest@gmail.com. Tickets can be bought with Paypal or Postepay (debit card). For those who need other ways of payment please contact PRE at: giulio@postromantic.com or call +39 3280388313. Presale in Rome can be found at: TRANSMISSION record store, Via dei Salentini 27, Roma.
*‘Docetica!’—David Tibet art exhibition in Rome 16 October–28 November 2009*
To coincide with the PRE Final Festival:
www.postromantic.com, Motel Salieri is showing a selection of around 17 of David Tibet's paintings, including 2 or 3 new works that were not shown at his ‘Some Gnostic Cartoons’ London show. For more details on David's show, see
www.motelsalieri.org/guestat. ‘DOCETICA!’ is a LUPUS/SALIERI experiment in collaboration with the ISIS gallery of London.
The text written by David regarding his work is thus:
I paint apocalypse cartoons and call prayers to God. I use coloured pastel and white ink on black paper. I have depicted how I see and love and fear the world around me and the world to come for me. I have pictured the back of the stars tremble and fall. I have written all the night and its names. I have turned cats into comets. I have stood at the Hallucinatory Mountain, full of trouble and colours, and seen the Kingdom of Heaven roaring like a lamb."
God is Love, David Tibet, Hastings, September 17, 2009.

guest@motelsalieri.orgwww.motelsalieri.org*Pantaleimon cancels appearance*
Even though Pantaleimon are still listed on some websites as playing, we would like to let you know that Pantaleimon will not be appearing at the Post Romantic Empire's Final Festival in Roma, Italy
www.postromantic.com.
Andria is very sorry that she feels the need to pull out. She is going through some pretty seismic shifts in her personal life and so to do this festival would feel to her impossible at this time.
*Pantaleimon instruments for sale on eBay*
[image 3 167x250]Here is your chance to buy a beautiful octave mandola (mandolin) from Andria Degens. The mandola has been played by Andria at many of her shows as Pantaleimon. It was lovingly hand-made by Paul Hathway in London, England
www.paulhathway.com/05.html and has an internal Headway under-saddle pick-up. She is selling some of her other instruments, including the aforementioned mandola, as well as a tear-drop dulcimer. The dulcimer has been used mainly for bowing and has a little tamboura-type ring. It's very sweet. There is also a bouzouki case too. All the items can be seen
here on Ebay.
Click here to place a bid*Antony and the Johnsons ‘Cripple and the Starfish’ metal ‘positive’ stamper for auction on eBay*
[image 2 175x167] [image 1 175x169]I have found a small number of the various pieces of metalwork that were used to manufacture some of the C93 albums and singles, as well as the ‘Cripple and the Starfish’ track by Antony and the Johnsons that was part of a shared 7" with C93's ‘Immortal Bird’.
There are 2 types of metalwork (which both look the same): (1) the STAMPERS, which play the ‘right way’ on one's record player; and (2) the POSITIVES, which look exactly the same but are ‘generated’ from the STAMPERS. These are used to press the final vinyl, so play ‘backwards’. All stampers are slightly over 12 inches in diameter, whatever the size of the vinyl that they are used to press.
Do note, however, that sometimes there is a slight warp on the metalwork which makes them difficult to play; they may need pressing down under heavy books or boxes for a while before they are easily playable. Fundamentally, these are decorative items, and should be purchased as such, rather than audio items to play.
GENERALLY, each single STAMPER side is in its own cardboard box: one box for each side of the record. Both sides of the POSITIVES for any vinyl release are together in one box.
I can't work out what they are worth, so I will be putting them up, one at a time, on eBay with a starting bid of £93, or, in this case, its US$ equivalent. This is the second piece of metalwork I have put up, and this the one is the 12 inch metal ‘STAMPER’ (which therefore plays the ‘right’ way) for ‘Cripple and the Starfish’ (Durtro 049B), side 2 of the split 7" single shared by C93 and Antony and the Johnsons.
Click here to place a bid*Torino: mille grazie to all involved*
Myself and all of C93 would like to thank all of those involved in planning the C93 concert, especially Fabrizio Palumbo. I and C93 especially want to thank Carola Marucchi for appearing on stage with us and Simona Dalle Valle for the photo session she did with myself and Andrew Liles. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ITALY, and am presently hoping to attend a month-long crash-course so I can learn to speak this most beautiful of languages, and perhaps even record in it one day.
But our deepest thanks go to all of those who came from so many locations to see us. I was especially happy to meet so many people from Finland. I love Finland, its people and its language. Finland, Israel, Romania, Norway and Hungary are countries which I very much hope to visit and play shows in next year, with God's help. And all the the other flags.
*David’s Coptic MA studies now finished*
I have, at last, finished my MA in Coptic Studies, with a 2-term/semester Research Project presented by me at the end of a Diplomatic Edition of the unpublished Sahidic Coptic text, held at the IFAO in Cairo (where I worked on it), of "The Investiture of the Archangel Michael". The Coptic title of the work, following the transcription system of Professor Stephen Emmel, is "pjOOme mptaho eratf mparxaggelos etoyaab mixaEl", in which the capital letters represent a long vowel (hence "O"=Greek letter "omega", "E"=Greek letter "eta"). My edition is expected to be published by the IFAO in Cairo, and I will be giving details of this nearer the time.
I hope to start work on my PhD in Coptic over the next year or so, probably in Germany under Professor Emmel and Professor Heike Behlmer. The work I have done in Coptic has affected me profoundly, as all those who know me personally will attest. When I read Coptic I enter a region of startling beauty and mystery.
My very deep thanks to all of those who have helped me in my studies, too many to list adequately here, but especially to Stephen Emmel (Münster), Heike Behlmer (MacQuarie/Gottingen), Dr Anne Boud'hors (Paris), Dr Sebastian Richter (Leipzig), Dr Hugo Lundhaug (Oslo), Professor Wolf-Peter Funk (Montréal), Dr. Malcolm Choat (MacQuarie), Alin Suciu (Montréal), Mathew Almond (MacQuarie) and Dr Jenny Cromwell (Oxford).
*David Tibet writes essay for Christian Holstad’s new exhibition catalogue, ‘I Confess’*
[image 5 250x213]I was very honoured to be asked by one of my favourite living artists, Christian Holstad, to write a piece for the catalogue of his current exhibition "I CONFESS", which is based on the Stations of the Cross and is being held at Palazzo Santa Margherita in Modena, Italy.
I spent a lot of time with Christian and his friend Milovan Farronato—the curator of the Modena show —in Torino this month and he gave me copies of the book, which is stunningly beautiful and very fascinating. I recommend this to ALL. The book is available from the gallery, who can be contacted through the website given above.
The image pictured is from "I CONFESS", and is titled "Station IV".
*Nick Blinko & ‘The Haunted Head’: publication delayed for 5 weeks*
We had originally hoped Nick's novel, ‘The Haunted Head’, would be published at the end of September. However Nick and the publishers (Coptic Cat) decided, at the very last moment, to add a series of Nick's ‘Haunted Head’ drawings to the front and end of the book, and Nick also decided to re-draw one of the images on the CD cover.
This book HAS now been sent to the publishers, and we are told we will have it back at the end of October, when orders will be processed and the book mailed out. Apologies for this minor delay. If anyone wishes to receive a refund, please let us know and we will oblige immediately.
*Published! Floating C93 member Geoff Cox’s first book, ‘Anna and the Witch’s Bottle’*
Black Maps Press:
www.blackmaps.org, a publishing imprint of Black Maps Limited ('a record label, a book publisher, a secret society, a manifesto based in London'), has just published Geoff Cox's first book, a beautiful and magical fairytale called Anna and the Witch's Bottle, with extraordinary illustrations by Rohan Daniel Eason. Some of you will remember Geoff Cox-Dorée—to use his full name—from his appearance on the Tibet-Stapleton album _The Sadness of Things_, from his calligraphy on many C93 albums such as _The Inmost Light_ and _Black Ships Ate the Sky_, and the constant mention of his name in the friends’ credits on practically every C93 and NWW album. This book is a masterpiece. Geoff Cox's next literary project is a book co-authored with Anok Pe. More details about this in the near future.
*Hush Arbors: new album release as well as London and Rome shows*
HUSH ARBORS, the main project of Keith Wood, who also plays in C93, have their gorgeous new album, 'Yankee Reality', released on 6 October in the USA and 12 October in the UK, with a low-key London date, a short set at the PRE Rome festival which C93 are also playing, and a special guest appearance with Sonic Youth in London. David Tibet wrote a brief promotional text which was used in advertising for the album. For more details on the album and Hush Arbors' other forthcoming activities, go to
