Dear all:
*Coptic Cat, and David Tibet, greet you and all of your faces and spaces*
[image 3 250x228]
This is the first update from Coptic Cat, which has now replaced Durtro as the label and publishing imprint name through which the projects of David Tibet, Current 93 and those of other artists with whom he is associated shall be released. As this is a change of name but not of organisation, those already on the Durtro mailing list will automatically receive Coptic Cat email updates. If you do not wish to receive Coptic Cat updates, please click on the ‘unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of this email.
Visitors to durtro.com will be automatically redirected to
copticcat.com. All relevant information, and all items from the store, have now be moved to the Coptic Cat site and the
Coptic Cat store. Durtro has now ceased to exist as an active label and imprint, though some material on that label will be kept in print.
The Coptic Cat website also has some new content which wasn’t previously on durtro.com. We hope to add more new content and new features to the website in due course.
Please remember that many of the items in the Coptic Cat store (apart from limited edition releases, books and prints) can also be purchased from Jnana Records:
www.jnanarecords.com in Canada, the company of Mark Logan, who runs Coptic Cat in association with David Tibet.
Our website is:
www.copticcat.comOur email address is:
contact@copticcat.comOur address for details of booking C93 and David to play is:
booking@copticcat.com. *Please note:* the old email address for live bookings, C93booking@hotmail.it is *no longer* being used for C93.
*Current 93: 28 & 29 May 2010! Two spectacular shows in London to celebrate David’s birthday as well as 25 years of Current 93*
C93 PLAY LONDON ON FRIDAY 28 MAY AND SATURDAY 29 MAY, 2010. We have just received confirmation of two special and spectacular events by Current 93 and friends to celebrate 25 years of C93 and David Tibet’s 50th birthday. More information will be announced, with further details, in the next update. There will be also be a Hallucinatory Mountain Storm of new items whose release date will be on 28 May, the first day of the show.
*Current 93: the haunting, haunted and hunted new album whose cipher is ‘BS:SO’*
Details of the new C93 album, which is unlike anything C93 have ever manifested before, will be released on the next update. Also published in the same update will be details of a special subscriber’s edition. The album is released on the first day of C93’s London shows.
*C93 concert appearances: new email contact for UK/European booking*
All enquiries about live shows in the UK and Europe should from now on be sent to
bookings@copticcat.com.
The c93booking@hotmail.it address should no longer be used as the initial contact email address for any communication concerning concerts by C93.
*Current 93 play Moscow on 4 March 2010*
C93 play Moscow’s
IKRA Club on 4 March, and David and other members return home on David’s birthday, 5 March. Please bring David thousands of birthday presents! Special guests will be Baby Dee with Alex Neilson. This is our last show anywhere before our two major London concerts on 28 and 29 May.
*Current 93: ‘Monohallucinatory Mountain’ postponed to early February*
[image 4 250x250]Unfortunately, due to the grotesque busyness of the record pressing factories, the single LP vinyl version of MONOHALLUCINATORY MOUNTAIN will now be released at the beginning of February, as David only just received the test pressings, which he has approved.
David has also reconsidered the artwork and insert. The front and back cover of this single LP consist of two reproductions from David’s recent series of paintings. The black and white paintings have been scanned and printed in full colour to give them a greater depth and richness.
The LP insert will no longer feature the album’s lyrics, but will consist of two more of the same series of paintings, with details of only the tracklisting and the album’s line-up. These paintings are taken from the series of 39 hand-painted sleeves that will be offered for sale on the next update.
The LP is released in an edition of 500 copies, all of which have been signed and hand-numbered by David.
Click here to orderPayment will not be taken for this item until it is sent out to the purchaser.
*Current 93: ‘Monohallucinatory Mountain’ test pressing edition*
Details of a special test pressing edition of 39 copies only, with extraordinary hand-painted sleeves by David, will also be announced in the next update.
*David Tibet: ‘Aleph at Docetic Mountain’ book*
We are sorry for the delay in sending out this book/CD package. It was finally ready on 24 December, but couldn’t arrive to our mail order office until it re-opened on 4 January. The orders are now being processed and sent out.
*Another CA $1000 donated to Doctors Without Borders from the ‘Not Alone’ compilation*
[image 6 250x250]
The ‘Not Alone’ 5CD compilation, curated by Mark Logan and David Tibet, from which all profits go to
Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) for their work with HIV/AIDS in Africa, has taken in another CA $1000, bringing the total amount given to MSF/DWB to be approximately CA $35,000 (US $ 34,064.31; EUR €23,674.49; GBP £20,931.22). In view of the horrific situation in Haiti, this specific $1000 has been given to MSF/DWB’s Haiti fund. Thanks to all of you who have raised this amount: it is in fact all of those who contributed their songs, and those of who who bought the compilation, who have given this money to MSF/DWB. For more details on this 5CD set, and to purchase go to
www.jnanarecords.com/msf.html.

*Some of my favourite things*
I have been very impressed by the new WHITE PEE:
www.myspace.com/whitepee CDEP ‘Mudclaude’ on the Apollolaan label:
www.myspace.com/apollolaan. This San Francisco quartet’s enchanting, dark and humorous din is a delight, and the recording is a lovely yet frighteningly relentless tale of what loss has to tell. So, the perfect soundtrack for what you want to do and what you don’t! There will be a re-release of their first full length CD, ‘A Wing Off of O Plane’ also on Apollolaan, which is a long slow descent towards a brown acid hell, luckily crashing in an ocean of drink, and alive by the grace of God.
*An extraordinary book: ‘Poseidon’s Steed’*
[image 1 164x250]
Some of those receiving this update will be aware of my long-term fascination with SEAHORSES. I wish to recommend a marvellous new book, ‘Poseidon’s Steed: The story of seahorses from myth to reality’ by Dr Helen Scales, a PhD at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. This is one of my books of the year, and I have just started re-reading it. It is beautifully written, and the tale Dr Scales tells is profoundly moving in its recounting of the legends about seahorses, as well as their true natures. It is also, sadly, very disturbing in its description of the perils faced by the seahorse who is, alas, now rearing to oblivion. Buy this book and bring the seahorse back to its rightful place in our hearts!
It is available in the UK
here and in North America
here.
A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU AND YOURS.
GOD IS LOVE. WATCH FOR THE SIGNS IN THE STARS, AND PRAY IN THE GRACE AND FACE OF THE COMING STORM
Love and peace to you all,
Anok Pe David Tibet+++
